Dubai UAE and culture

Dubai is one of the seven Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Dubai is the most populous city in the UAE with about 2,5 million people. Most are expatriate (expats), coming from all over the world to make a better life for themselves. As far as we know, there are about 3000-4000 Danes in Dubai and they live all over the city. The ruler of Dubai is H. H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Seven Emirates are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah & Umm al-Quwain. Each Emirate has its own ruler and law, so you will find that there are differences in life and practices in each Emirate.

Every December 2nd we celebrate National Day for the foundation of the country in 1971 and both locals and expats celebrate the day. You will see the UAE flag everywhere, from buildings to the most spectacular bedazzled cars. As an Islamic country we celebrate the religious holidays, like Ramadan and Eid, but you will find that other holidays are also celebrated, like Christmas and Diwali. If you want to know more about the Seven Emirates visit the Government site.
